Not sure about a procedure for bronze guns, as I never had this issue. Such a treatment gives a certain 'plasticity' to the gun. lightly with a very soft pencil this then can spread and blended in using one's finger or cotton-sticks. In the case of black guns, I would spray-paint these in a semi-gloss and then rub ridges, rims etc. While a painted gun certainly would not have a metallic appearance (except for the muzzle), a surface treatment on the model that suggests 'metal' might enhance their appearance. Very often, these may be aesthetically pleasing, but are certainly not 'realistic'. We have become used to certain types of surface treatments on models and their guns. One would need to establish this for a particular prototype and period. Some navies also used black or (rarer) dark green oil-paint. Effectively, this process created in situ an iron-oxyhydroxide-based paint of a deep brown colour. The resulting rust, mixed with iron-acetates, was solidified after drying the guns carefully by rubbing them with lineseed-oil. In the latter case the guns were repeatedly rubbed down with vinegar. This was done by either (black) paint or by creating a passivating patina. This can change the colour from a deep green to a sort of metallic black.Ĭast-iron rusts easily and needs to be protected. However, as bronze sculptures, one can also create articial patinas by rubbing the material with sulfur compounds or vinegar-based concoctions. With time bronze develops a brownish patina that reduces further degradation. To my knowledge, bronze guns were not given a specific surface treatment. ![]() The surface treatment was intended to stop or reduce weathering and degradation of the guns exposed to the weather. I gather, we are talking here about either bronze or cast-iron guns. There are three main materials for guns, namely bronze, cast iron and steel. It really depends on the period and the type of guns. ![]() Dropbox and OneDrive encrypt user’sdata on their servers, but SpiderOak follows what is known as “zero-knowledge privacy.” ![]() SpiderOak has an entirely different approach when it comes to privacy and security. ![]() SpiderOak: Provides Stolid Security and Privacy Additionally, it gives you the ability to allow others to make amdnements to your files. Whilst considered relatively safe, much of the flavour is also removed and teas using this process can be weak and bland. The water is then added back to the leaves. The leaves are soaked in hot water, and then put through a carbon filter which extracts the caffeine molecules. This is more closely associated with coffee decaffeination. It also destroys many of the health benefits, as it removes the ‘polyphenols’, special tea antioxidants which help fight free radicals and boost the body’s defence and renewal mechanisms. On the negative side, again a chemical residue is left as the chemical can’t be entirely removed, and this leaves the tea with a bitter taste. On the plus side, this is actually a chemical already present in tea leaves. This method is controversial as methylene chloride is widely considered not safe for consumption.Īgain the tea leaves are soaked, this time in ethyl acetate (also used in nail polish remover!). Unfortunately, it is not possible to remove all of it and so a chemical residue can be left on the leaves. The chemical is then separated out taking much of the caffeine with it. In this method, the tea leaves are soaked in a chemical solvent called methylene chloride which bonds with the caffeine molecules. All decaf teas are not the same! Here is an outline of the main techniques: Methylene chloride There are different decaffeination methods that are used for tea, and it is worth asking which one was used if you are drinking decaf tea. Naturally caffeine free would always be our preference when cutting down on caffeine. This means that the leaves undergo little processing and will not contain any trace caffeine. Conversely, ‘caffeine free’ means the plant never actually contained caffeine in the first place it was simply not in it’s genetic make-up. ![]() But is there a difference? The answer is absolutely, yes.ĭecaf tea means that the black or green tea leaves have undergone a decaffeination process to remove the caffeine molecules. If you are trying to cut down on caffeine in tea, the best way is to substitute regular tea with either decaf tea or naturally caffeine free. This means that if you're drinking tea it can be very difficult to gauge exactly how much caffeine you are consuming in a day. Green tea generally has less than black teas, but again there might be quite a lot of overlap at the upper end of the green tea caffeine scale. Some black teas might even have more caffeine than some weaker coffees. Because, it is a natural compound, the amount of caffeine in each plant can vary enormously.Ĭoffee generally has the most milligrams of caffeine, but different types of tea, whether black or oolong tea, green or white tea, can contain varying levels depending on where it was grown and how it was picked and processed. Whilst tolerable in small quantities, too high a caffeine intake can affect blood pressure and heart health, and can contribute to insomnia as well as anxiety, palpitations and tremors. Caffeine is a natural chemical found in certain plants, most notably in coffee, cacao and of course black, green and white teas. ![]() ![]() In a nutshell minimal vs maximal refers to the amount of cushioning that the shoe gives to the runners. It is largely a matter of preference, but running on your toes requires a completely different set of muscle activation and switching from one kind of shoe to the other without proper conditioning and a very gradual approach might result in injury. The logic is: shoes with a higher heel will favor heel strike during running, while shoes with a zero or low drop will favor a more forefoot or midfoot running gait. Low drop are considered shoes with a drop between zero (called zero drop) and 4mm. Low drop or zero drop running shoesĪ running shoe drop, or heel-to-toe offset, is the difference, measured in millimiters (mm) between the height of the shoe sole in the heel area vs the height of the sole in the toe area.įor reference, traditional running shoes usually have an offset (drop) of 12mm. Some runners though (like me) absolutely do need stability in their shoes in order not to get injured. Runners with low or flat arches have their arch collapse under the impact resulting in mis-alignment of the running gait, therefore needing shoes that correct this issueĪlthough there is much more to choosing a pair of running shoes than this, most runners will be find in Netrual (cushioning) running shoes.Runners with high arches don’t amortise the shock of impact with the ground enough, therefore needing shoes with extra cushioning. This is based on the concept (lately less popular) that the height and elasticity of your foot arch determines what your shoe should do for you. The addition of a very noir feeling atmosphere adds an extra layer to the proceedings. If you’re a fan of procedural shows, or are at least familiar with them, then the interactions between these two in the office and at the crime scene should feel very natural to you: I think, as an audience, we have come to expect this level of detail in the dialogue with it being so common place nowadays, the absence of it would almost feel unnatural. This time around, it seems that Harvey will be spending more time with Nancy Yip, a character introduced in Buccellato and Manapul’s last arc. Well, while this scene still doesn’t show him hitting the town and being the rich playboy, it does recognize the Bruce side of Batman and its importance to the character. Recently, one of the reviewers here at Batman-News commented on the fact that we don’t get to see a lot of Bruce being Bruce. There is also a nice moment between Batman and Alfred, in which the creative team displays their take on the Batman/Bruce persona. ![]() We get to see some Batman action, Batman working the case with actual detective work, and explanations to the viewer of what he is doing as he explains it to Alfred. It’s a nice snippet/sampling of the kind of things Batman deals with on a daily basis and I think it helps newer readers instantly identify with the kind of things they can expect to see coming out of this book. We weren’t asked to start off slow, but instead jump in at the culmination of an ongoing case. I can’t tell whether this Batman intro will be relevant to the overall story or if this is just a way to thrust us back into the world of Batman, but if the later, it did the job well. The two characters that we primarily spend time with are Batman and Harvey Bullock, following suit with the standard set up from Buccellato and Manapul’s last arc. You can fold hinged glass panels inward when the shower is not in use as well. They can be either fixed in place or hinged to swing. Glass panels are easy to install, maintain and are perfect for small bathrooms. This will open up your bathroom significantly and allow more light into your shower or tub. To prevent this, swap out your shower curtain with a frameless glass panel instead. Shower curtains also close off one-third of your room visually. Let’s be honest, no one likes shower curtains. ![]() The lower height makes getting in and out easier and it will make your room feel more open as well. Showers are great for adults and guests, especially older ones. If you have the option to lose the tub, you’ll open up the space significantly. Tubs take up twice the amount of floor space than showers. If you can’t wall mount the toilet, consider adding shelving above the tank for additional storage or extending your vanity top to create a narrow ledge. If you have space in the walls of your small bathroom to build-in a toilet tank, you can save both floor space and legroom with a wall mounted toilet.
